Quokka is an art initiative created by two sisters, Alkistis
and Mina, who complete each other as artists and people. They joined forces during the lockdown in early 2020, while trapped in their shared apartment in Athens, Greece. Quokka is their common ground for constant creative experimentation, using their combined skills and variety of mediums. Quokka's work speaks for an equitable world of diverse abilities and unlimited possibilities. And for a healthy universal society of unique human beings, who can experience beauty and freedom in harmony with nature. Alkistis is a multidisciplinary artist, well rooted in the art of theatre and dance/movement, experimenting with video, photography, poetry and conceptual writing. She calls herself a Life’s Alchemist, because her true talent is transforming her experiences into art. Her main focus currently, is the exploration of the idea of Poetry N’ Motion. Mina is a researcher, architect/maker and visual artist, mainly working with photography (film, digital), bricolage and poetry, for the creation of Visual Narratives. Her subjects are inspired by landscapes, flowers and vernacular knowledge. She is also learning to do magic along with her sister :) * FYI Quokkas are those beautiful animals that inhabit in a remote part of Australia. They have lived far away from human civilisation, and do not carry any memory of violence in their DNA...They are the manifestation of happiness! They help us remember our true goal in life: Laugh, Share Joy, Play! However, they do have a dark side...When chased by a predator, mother quokka would throw her baby as a distraction to escape. Our mission is to become an evolved version of stronger Quokkas that would not abandon anyone behind when afraid. Quokkas that fight with a smile on the face and a light heart! |
